This is another win from Mr. Pregent who is becoming the chief storyteller of people from in and around the working-class town of North Adams, MA. As someone who was herself born (and raised) in the North Adams area, many of these names were familiar to me, so it was fascinating to read about their lives, influences, challenges, and triumphs. Dennis is a skilled interviewer who is able to draw out the fine details that help bring these people--whether you know them or not--to life on the page. I would recommend this to anyone who has lived at any time in the Berkshires, or to anyone who loves reading about the varied lives of regular - interesting - but still regular, people like themselves. He has written a captivating story of the Berkshires in Massachusetts through the lives of a number of its fascinating and engaging citizens, past and present. This follows his successful book, The Boys of St. Joe’s ’65 in the Vietnam War, a compelling collection of stories of high school classmates, also from the Berkshires, who served heroically during the Vietnam War. Having been proudly born in the Berkshires myself, I know a number of the subjects in Dennis’ latest book, either personally or by reputation. But Dennis tells stories and provides insights about those folks of which I was unaware, and highlights the lives of many others with whom I was not acquainted, reminding me of the wealth of talented and selfless men and women who got their starts in the Berkshires. I strongly recommend this book to anyone with a connection to the Berkshires, as well as to anyone who seeks to know more about the quality and character of the unique residents of a small New England town. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from bouch -- Another great book by the author! : While reading Dennis Pregent’s book “Born in The Berkshires” I found myself engrossed in each chapter, unable to put it down. Many of the individuals discussed in the book, I have known a good part of my life in one way or another. How surprised was I that there was so much more to their life than I could imagine. Their background was fascinating and done well. Each individual’s story is done with care and it brings to light, lives well-lived in our beautiful Berkshires, giving back to their community. The Berkshires are full of many success stories and Dennis' prowess for putting into words these snippets of peoples lives that have effected the history of the area is outstanding.
